Is De-cluttering helping me lose weight?

Is De-cluttering helping me lose weight?

I’m finding this a bit hard to get my head round at the minute, but could it be possible that all of my De-cluttering is helping me to lose weight?

For the first time in over 2 years I am finding it relatively easy to stick to a healthy eating plan and I actually seem to be achieving a steady weight loss. I don’t feel tempted, I’m not stressing about what I’m allowed and not allowed to eat and most importantly it isn’t bothering me that I’m only having a small chocolate snack each day instead of my massive amounts of sugar rushes I used to rely to get me through.

If you read my articles you’ll know that I hate diets and that I’ve been on a mission to find a non diet alternative to losing weight since I had my second child 3 years ago.

I’ve tried vitamins, hypnosis, comfort eating DVDs, yeast free, sugar free, wheat free, high fat, low carb, running, trampolining and dancing. I even bought the gastric band hypnosis Cd, but all to no avail. I’ve lost and put on the same 7lbs about a dozen times.

So what’s changed? Do I have a new secret I need to share about how to lose weight without going on a diet? well no actually, I’m still trying to pinpoint the turn of events which have gotten me here, and it is still early days, but I thought I’d share with you the 4 or 5 very small, seemingly insignificant changes I’ve made in my life over the past couple of months.

I’ll start with,

De-cluttering,

I began seeing the benefits of De-cluttering a few weeks ago, when I was clearing out for no purpose other than to make some space in our house.

I then became more and more ruthless with the process and continued in phases to go through and get rid of things which aren’t used regularly and which we don’t love. I hadn’t associated the impact on my well-being in relation to the De-cluttering until I read this article from Yota at Open for Success. Then it started to click into place. Needless to say I was making a stop to the charity shop with a few more bags of goodies this weekend.

So what are the links between clearing out your cupboards and getting rid of the skeletons in your closet? Here are some chapters I found on the web this week, summing it up nicely.

Having Clutter can Keep You in the Past
When all your available space is filled with clutter, there is no room for anything new to come into your life. Your thoughts tend to dwell in the past, and you feel bogged down with problems that have dogged you for some time. Clearing your clutter allows you to begin to deal with your problems and move forward. You have to release the past to create a better tomorrow.

Having Clutter Can Affect Your Body Weight
A curious fact I have noticed over the years is that people who have lots of clutter in their homes are often overweight. I believe this is because both body fat and clutter are forms of self-protection. By building layers of fat or clutter around yourself, you hope to cushion yourself against the shocks of life, and particularly against emotions you have difficulty handling. It gives you the illusion of being able to control things and prevent them from affecting you too deeply. But this is an illusion.

Having Clutter Can Confuse You
When you live surrounded by clutter, it is impossible to have clarity about what you are doing in your life. When you clear it, you get fewer colds, you can think more clearly, and life decisions become easier. Being clear of clutter is one of the greatest aids I know to discovering and manifesting the life you want.

If you want to see more on this website, I’ve put the link at the bottom.

Coming Up in my next post:
The 2nd change I’ve made in the past couple of months, and could that be why I’m eventually managing to lose weight?

Please get in touch or leave a comment if you are having similar experiences I’d love to hear from you. Deborahx

Deborah’s Mumnuts

Some days, I just can't find the time to go to the toilet, never mind having 'ME Time'. Sound like anyone you know? I love being a mum, BUT, I still want to have a life I can call my own. I'm on a journey looking for some sort of compromise, trying to reach that win win situation, where everyone get's what they need and some of what they want in our family. Not an easy task with my 2 (the laddie 6.5, the wee yin almost 3)!

Mumnuts is where I share my journey, my latest findings and useful tips learned along the way as well as my creative writing/poems which come from the heart.
